When was Climate Smart Solutions founded?

Climate Smart Solutions was founded in September 2021.

Climate Smart Solutions is based firstly in Northern Tanzania. Because Tanzania’s neighbors share native plants and similar climate CSS intends to collaborate across borders with our neighboring NGO’s for the benefit of all of East Africa.

Our founder George is a researcher at TARI (Tanzanian Agricultural Research Institute) and specializes in sustainable intensification. We use sustainable crop production methods such as crop rotation and partner cropping while focusing on soil fertility. We also work with local farmers to identify varieties with desirable traits for crossing, propagation and promotion. Along with sustainable pastoral practices like zoning grazing lands we bring a variety of adaptations to the rural communities we work with.

We get most of our funding from grants, however much of our projects focus on being self sustaining once established. One of our major focuses is to increase the income of farmers, alongside introducing them to more sustainable methods of production.

Through establishing farmer’s co-ops, utilizing already existent environmental primary and secondary school clubs, improving water resource management, assisting with the development of climate resiliency and creating the value chains for farmers to sell their crops for more income generation.
